Team Russia by Barwell drivers, Leo Machitski and Timur Sardarov are further expanding their motor racing horizons this year with an entry into the Britcar Silverstone 24 Hours event on April 25-26. The duo are contesting the Blancpain Endurance Series this season, but will be swapping their regular BMW Z4 GT3 for a Marc Focus V8 at the British ‘twice round-the-clock’ endurance classic.
The 500bhp Ford V8-powered spaceframe machine will be jointly run by the Marc Cars Australia team and Barwell Motorsport, with Barwell MD Mark Lemmer joining the driving squad, along with former Barwell BTCC driver, James Kaye. Kaye has been contesting 24 and 12-hour endurance events around the world with this car since last year, and the Marc Cars squad has enjoyed much success including multiple class wins. This year it has already notched up class wins in the Dubai 24 Hours, Bathurst 12 Hours and Mugello 12 Hours. The Team Russia By Barwell entry will be part of a two car Marc Cars Australia attack on the Silverstone event.
Barwell Motorsport has a strong history of success in the Britcar Silverstone endurance event, claiming a saloon car class win in the 2005 running of the 24 Hours, when Lemmer and Kaye previously drove together in the team’s Honda Accord. The Surrey-based squad then took overall victory in the 2013 event, contested over 6 hours, with an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 piloted by Mark Poole and Richard Abra.
For Machitski and Sardarov this will be their Silverstone 24 Hours debut, and for Timur his first ever 24-hour race. Leo has previously tasted success in the 24 Hours of Spa, claiming podium finishes in 2007 (in GT2) and 2014 (in the Gentleman’s Trophy).
Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport Team Principal: “We’ve been relishing the prospect of getting our hands on a Marc Focus V8 for a while now, and I’m sure we can get a great result if we have a clean run. I’m really looking forward to driving with my good friends, James Kaye, Leo Machitski and Timur Sardarov.”
Ryan McLeod, Marc Cars Australia Team Principal: “It is fantastic to be joining up with such a successful operation as Barwell Motorsport. I’m really looking forward to trying to get to the top step of the podium in the Silverstone 24 Hours!”
